Penny Loafers

Every year, they’re always the most wanted: our men’s Penny Loafers. They’re super light, with neither laces nor bindings. Their light construction makes them feel like you’re gliding on slippers, while their refined styling means you can take them anywhere, work or play.

Where do Penny Loafers come from?

In 1936, G. H. Bass started producing men’s moccasins in the US called ‘Weejuns’, which were inspired by Norwegian dairy farmers’ shoes that had first appeared in an edition of Esquire Magazine.

In the 50s, moccasins were greatly popular among ‘preppy’ college students in America: these shoes matched their uniforms. The term ‘Penny’ is in reference to the act of student’s placing a penny in the slotted leather strap for pay phone calls.

How we make them

They all come with a leather sole, and are wrapped in the best full grain or suede leather available on the market. Unlike the other Loafers, we have chosen the ‘blake’ construction for our Penny Loafers where the insole and sole are directly sewn together making them much lighter.
